As the remnants of Hurricane Irene began to dissipate with Canada, the death toll from the storm continued to rise and flood-affected states in the U.S. Northeast.

The huge storm to slow traveled over 1100 miles of American coast leaving a trail of destruction up inside. At least 44 deaths have so far been awarded to Irene, with about 3 million people lost power along the way.

People are struggling to return to work as officials tried to remove fallen trees on roads and lines of light rail and tunnels flooded. Airports in the region have started to work again, but faced with nearly 9000 flights canceled as Irene hit.

More than 250 roads were closed in Vermont, the state experienced the worst flooding in 75 years. Governor Peter Shumlin said the status of a federal disaster area, as hundreds of people had to leave their homes.

New York City was saved from the flood forecasting. Most subway lines running through the city Monday morning. The New York Stock Exchange opened normally, although employees who face problems in finding work. However, there was flooding in the five counties with the worst affected suburbs and roads damaged in the valley of the Hudson River.

In New Jersey, officials expect that the floods along the rivers Passaic and Ramapo until Tuesday. "The floods in ... it was almost as much a concern of mine as coastal flooding, "said New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The rise of the oceans and rains caused severe flooding in the state. Christie said the damage could reach tens billions of dollars.
