Wall Street protests against economic inequality and corporate greed that led the nerve center of American capitalism are no longer just a phenomenon in New York. This weekend, from Seattle and Los Angeles on the west side of Providence, Rhode Island, and Tampa, Florida, east of 70 cities and more than 600 communities have joined the wave of the inflammation of the civil dissent. The slogan "Occupy Wall Street" has been conveniently shortened to one word: "occupy"
"It could be the turning point," said Dick Steinkamp, ??63, a part of the former Silicon Valley of the event held in Seattle occupy the heart of the mall restaurants city ??and region. He and his wife had driven two hours from his home in Bellingham, north of Seattle, especially to attend the event and to support more traditional practitioners.
"I marched against the Vietnam War before he was drafted into the army and the movement is now getting critical mass," he said.
A messageprotesters favorite is that nearly 40% of the wealth of the United States remains in the hands of 1% of the population, they are taxed more lightly than most Americans. Steinkamp held a sign that said "I'm 99%." And there is widespread anger that ordinary people have borne the brunt of the financial crisis, with severe job losses and foreclosures.
"I came here because I wanted to show that it was not just young anarchists," said Deb Steinkamp, ??also 63, and a former marriage counselor, with a green hood and comfortable shoes from moisture, cold weather in Seattle.
Claimserupted last week in Chicago, Boston, Memphis, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Austin, Madrid, Atlanta and dozens of other cities. Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Calgary are set to join the ranks of next week.
Driversreceived support through the show in Seattle, which was about 500 people on Friday and is likely to swell as the weekend progressed. In New York, more than 700 people were arrested as they walked into the bag and the Brooklyn Bridge, on behalf of Wall Street and occupy 20,000 marched in downtown Manhattan Wednesday .
- In Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, the mayor gave the demonstrators impermeable when there was a downpour. A thousand people gathered outside the offices of the municipal government of occupation of Austin, and crowds like Dallas and Houston.
protesters complain about tax cuts for oil companies, excessive pressure on Washington, and pay astronomical bonuses for rescuing the financial and banking sector.
