is no coincidence that the Immigration Advisory Service has closed this week quickly on the heels of the closure last year of its sister organization, Refugee and Migrant Justice (Report, July 12 ). The UK has lost its two leading providers of legal aid representation of migrants and asylum seekers, and tens of thousands of the most vulnerable in our society now to thank you for the Agency arbitrary boundaries and often illegal UK.

IAS and RMJ

at the forefront of the celebration of the UKBA responsible before the law. The NIC recently won a Supreme Court injunction to prevent the withdrawal of Iraqi asylum seekers after the discovery of strong evidence of recent returnees had been beaten and arrested by Iraqi authorities on arrival at Baghdad airport. Other important cases in the pipeline to prevent the Burmese asylum seekers back into the arms of the Burmese junta vicious and young Afghans in misery and danger in the streets of Kabul.

Legal Services Commission has used a smoke screen of financial irregularities in the NIC to close the entire organization, leaving most people in need of legal assistance without representation, and the looting of low remuneration of staff. Ironically, Jonathan Djanogly, the Minister of Legal Aid, paid £ 25,000 in expenses for members expenses fiasco. It has since been promoted and legal aid cuts, he wants to bring refuse to 600,000 people a year access to the courts to protect against the illegal actions of the owners, employers and the UKBA. This is a great business for those who can afford it, but others will face transfers increasingly illegal, unlawful detentions, forced disappearances, family disintegration, and the real risk of torture or killed when they return to their country. The government began its attack on the weak and needy. We must defend legal aid before it's too late.
