pressure group seeks to halt EU measures that foreign airlines pay carbon tax in Europe

A coalition of industry lobby has urged the Obama administration on Monday to challenge a European law requiring airlines using EU airports to pay for their carbon emissions.

groups, including American Airlines (A4A) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, asking them to stop forcing the EU foreign airlines to meet the bloc's emissions trading system.

The EU has adopted a firm position in insisting that countries meet their emissions trading system, but said he would be willing to participate in a solution of ICAO if it is not discriminatory, compulsory in all countries and rigorous environment that the EU system.
