municipal officers began eviction of travelers from the site of Dale Farm. Thus unfolded the line

1960

a small number of travelers are beginning to emerge near the site of Dale Farm, part of which was licensed as a dumping ground. In the 1990s the site has increased to 37 parcels authorized by the City of Basildon.

2001

family travelers begin to establish illegal camps in the country green belt.

2005

May:

passengers were ordered to leave Dale Farm after an inspector Development Planning has declared illegal. Basildon council votes for enforcement.

June: Actor and political activist Corin Redgrave suffered a heart attack while speaking at a board meeting of Basildon to discuss the future of Dale Farm. He described the passengers as "the poorest country of the community."

2006

Dale Farm travelers holding a vigil outside Westminster, the government is considering a new approach to gypsy and travelers sites.

2007

Save campaign calling for reconsideration of Dale Farm following a council decision to hire specialists to evict and raze the place.

2008

travelers celebrate the opening of a new community center, despite the ongoing legal action Basildon council to allow the deportation proceedings.

2009

The decision of the appellate court that the previous court ruling which overturned the High Council of Basildon to take enforcement action was flawed. Lord Justice Pill said the decision to rehabilitate the site was legal.
